We should never make our feelings, no matter whether they are favorable or unfavorable the test of our spiritual condition. The only way we can know our true standing before God is by His Word. We are often confused on this all- important point. When we are happy and joyful we can often use this as the criteria to think that we are approved of God; but when a change in our feelings come, and we feel sad or despondent, we think that it is because God has abandoned us. God does not want us to go through life doubting His love for us. God gave His Son to die for us. How can we possibly doubt His love and goodness toward His earth-born children?
We are in God’s world, in the presence of the infinite Creator, and we are made in His likeness; He watches over us and loves and cares for us with a love that is so high, so deep, so broad that it is beyond our human comprehension to understand it. God will more than fulfill the highest expectations of those who put their trust in Him. God wants us to comprehend the fact that when we are submissive and repentant, we stand where He can, and will, reveal Himself to us. God is delighted when we remind Him of blessings and mercies that He has conferred upon us in the past as a reason why He should lavish upon us still greater blessings.
God is honored when we demonstrate the genuineness of our love for Him by keeping His commandments. There is nothing so great and powerful as God’s love for those who are His faithful and obedient children. God’s ideal for us is higher than our highest thought can reach. As God is perfect in His sphere, so we may be perfect in our sphere. The standard of Christian character is to be like Jesus Christ. God has opened before us a path of continual advancement. We have a high standard to attain which includes all that is exalted, important, perfect, and noble. It is our privilege to continually strive for purity and perfection in our Christian character.
