Prayer is the Life of the Soul

28 March 2024

Prayer is God’s ordained means of success in the development of Christian character. The divine influence that comes in answer to the prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul all for which we plead. For the pardon of sin, for the working of the Holy Spirit in our soul, for a Christ-like temper, for wisdom, for any gift He has promised, we may ask; and the promise is from God is, “Ye shall receive.”

Jesus is our helper; it is through Him that we will conquer.  The grace of Christ is awaiting your demand upon it. Jesus will give you grace and strength, as you need it, if you ask Him. The Holy Spirit will bind and restrain every unholy passion, will stimulate to energy, to self-discipline, will furnish the necessary help for the everyday matters of life. The Spirit of Christ in the heart will be revealed in the character.

Make every effort to keep open the communion between Jesus and your own soul: Do not neglect secret prayer; for this is the life of the soul. It is impossible for the soul to flourish while prayer is neglected. In solitude lay open your soul to the inspecting eye of God. Secret prayer is to be heard only by the prayer-hearing God. In secret prayer the soul is free from surrounding influences and in calm, simple faith, can hold communion with God, and gather to itself rays of divine light to strengthen and sustain it in the conflicts of life.

Pray too, as you go about your daily work, let your heart be often uplifted to God. These silent prayers rise like precious incense before the throne of grace. Nothing can overcome the one whose heart is stayed upon God.
