When Jesus Christ delivered His wonderful Sermon on the Mount, it was the light of Heaven shining on God’s Earth-born children. The Master Teacher spoke the words that the Heavenly Father gave Him to speak. The Sermon on the Mount was Christ’s greeting to the entire human family – not only to those that believe in Him as their Saviour, but to all. As He spoke, Jesus seemed to have forgotten for a moment that He was in this world of sin and pain, and not in Heaven as He used the familiar greeting of the heavenly realm. Blessings flowed from His lips as a flowing stream rich with life.
In this sermon Jesus leaves us in no doubt as to the character traits that He will always endorse and sanctify. Jesus pronounces that those who receive His light and life are truly blessed. To the meek, the humble, the poor in spirit, those who are sorrowful and the persecuted, He opens His everlasting arms of refuge, and says, “Come unto Me all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” In Christ’s infinite wisdom and love, He looks into the human heart and sees man’s possibilities, the height to which he may attain. Jesus knows that even though His Earth-born children have rebelled against God and slighted His mercy and destroyed their dignity, yet the Creator will be glorified in their redemption.
Throughout all eternity the words that Jesus Christ spoke from the mount will retain their power. Every word is a jewel from the treasure house of Divine Truth. The principles laid out in this sermon are for all who live, be they young, old, male, female, rich or poor. With His Divine Energy, Jesus made clear His faith and hope as He pointed out all those who will be blessed as they, through faith in Him, form a righteous character and reach the standard held up in His Words.
